What happens if my child misses a coaching lesson?
If your child misses a class during the term program due to illness, they will be given a credit for one lesson in the next term's program. In this instance, please notify the centre in advance if your child will be unable to attend a class and also provide a medical certificate to obtain the credit for the next term programshould be provided by a staff member. Where possible, we try to organise a make-up day to ensure that lessons that are missed through rain or illness can be made up that term.
Can we move my child to another coaching class during the term if the original time is no longer suitable?
If there are spaces available in another class, your child is more than welcome to change if the time is no longer suitableto the alternative class. We encourage parents who are considering making a time switch to do so as soon as possible in the term, so your child can stay with in the same group and with the same coach for consistency and maximum benefits.
What happens to my child's coaching lesson if it is raining?
If it is raining on the day of your child's lesson (or it looks as though it will rain) the best thing to do is call the centre and where staff will be able to advise you whether or not the lesson will need to be cancelled. If the lesson is rained out, your child will get a credit for one lesson in the next term program. or be able to attend the designated make-up day.
Where do I park?

What does my child need to bring to each lesson?
Your child will require a racquet for each lesson. Children are able to hire a tennis racquet from the centre if they do not have their own racquet. Each centre’s Pro Shop also stocks a wide range of quality racquets which are available for purchase, so please talk to centre staff about what racquet would be suitable for your child.
Given that most courts are not covered, water, sun screen and a hat is also recommended, along with non-marking shoes and some comfortable clothes to exercise in.
Can my child come and practise during a time outside of his/her lesson?
Courts are available for hire daily during the centre’s opening hours for children to come and use for practice.
The Queensland Tennis Centre is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 10.30pm and on weekends from 7am to 7pm. Find out the court hire rates.
The UQ Tennis Centre is open Monday to Friday and on Sunday from 7am to 11pm and on Saturday from 7am to 7pm. Find out the court hire rates.
Do you also offer private coaching lessons?
Yes. Both centres offer private coaching lessons. Private lessons are a great option if you are looking for personalised, one-on-one coaching for your child. Our accredited coaches can tailor a program to suit your child’s individual needs and deliver the lesson at a time most convenient to you and your child.
To find out more about private lessons at the Queensland Tennis Centre and the UQ Tennis Centre.
When does my child progress to the next coaching level?
All our coaches work closely with the Head Coach and Programs Coordinator to develop and facilitate a smooth progression for your child through the various class levels. Through the use of modified equipment and progression resources, you can be regularly updated on your child’s progress. Coaches will also regularly evaluate the children’s skills and provide recommendations on when your child is ready to move up to the next level. Most importantly, all staff at the centre are committed to making sure every child is getting the most out of the program and are becoming the best player they can possibly be while having loads of fun on court.
To determine what class level is best for your child, please review the progression charts available at each centre:
Can my child enrol in a coaching or fixture activity after the program has commenced?
Both tennis centres can take enrolments for children's term coaching programs at any time during the term provided there are still spots available, so don't worry if you've missed the start of a coaching program. However with fixtures, due to the fact that teams and draws are organised at the start of the season, we cannot guarantee that places are still available after the season has commenced. Each tennis centre, however, welcomes interest in fixtures at any time during the year, so we will do our best to find a spot for your child. If the fixture season has already commenced, please contact the tennis centre directly to check availability of fixture positions.
Am I allowed to watch my children play during their lessons?
Parents are encouraged to come and watch their children play tennis, have a great time on court and improve their skills. Parents can also use that this time to discuss your their child's progression with the coaches or other centre staff if available after the lesson or fixture. Plus, aAs well as watching your child on court, why not hire a court yourself and also enjoy playing some tennis during your child's time at the centre?
