Swim School Levels

Nursery Introduction for parent and baby to water and safety skills through use of games, singing, and playing with toys - develops water awareness,confidence and safety.
Infant learns skills such as holding their breath under water, blowing bubbles, kicking, recovering and floating.
6 months upwards 6
Nursery transition

Eases transition into Level 1 - parent participation required. Child learns skills such as safe entry and exit from the pool, body positioning, basic stroke coordination, kicking, and object retrieval from bottom of the pool.

From 2 years 4
Level 1 Beginners group that provides child with water confidence and safety through a structured program while enjoying the water. Child learns skills such as floating, streamlining off the wall, basic freestyle, object recovery from the bottom of the pool, and safety entries and exits. From 3 years 3
Level 2  Reinforces swimming foundation skills and development of freestyle and basic backstroke. On completion of this level the child will be proficient in freestyle and backstroke. Ability assessed 3
Level 3 Reinforces proficient freestyle and backstroke technique, including bilateral breathing. On completion of this level the child will be proficient in bilateral breathing,
backstroke, life-saving backstroke and sculling.
Ability assessed 4
Level 4 Participants are required to perform proficient freestyle, backstroke and life-saving backstroke Introduction to breaststroke, starts and finishes for each of the three strokes
and diving technique. On completion of this level the child will be proficient in freestyle, backstroke and basic breaststroke, starts and finishes and basic diving.
Ability assessed 4
Level 5 Refinement of breaststroke technique, including correct timing, and introduction to butterfly skills. Introduction to advanced freestyle and backstroke swimming drills and skills to further enhance endurance and strength. Ability assessed 6
Level 6 Important stage in stroke development, swimming all strokes over increased distances. Refinement of stroke techniques through drill and progression work plus tumble turns and diving. On completion of this level participants are proficient in all four strokes, swimming at least 25 metres. Participants are recommended to join the Swim Squad. Ability assessed 6
UQ Swim Squad This program provides children coming out of the Learn to Swim Program with the opportunity to enhance their skills and technique in all aspects of swimming in a fun, safe and supportive environment. Ability assessed Unlimited
